Bernie, Green-Winged Macaw

Bernie was originally rescued from a private owner by a friend who knew he deserved a better quality of life. She wanted him to live with other birds of his kind in a true sanctuary setting. Black Pine was the perfect match.

Bernie is incredibly talkative and curious, picking up new vocabulary from his keepers. He can often be heard asking for a cracker, and now has taught the word “cracker” to other bird residents — suddenly they all are demanding treats. Bernie loves music, dancing and singing along with his favorite keeper, Kevin.

Bernie appreciates 1:1 time with Keepers Kevin and Beca, as well as opportunities for new sensory enrichment, given to him each day.
