Claudia

Claudia was rescued in partnership with the Animal Legal Defense Fund from a roadside zoo in Pennsylvania with her sister Celeste and another cavy named Pierre in spring of 2026. The three cavies arrived at Black Pine having been exposed to parasites for the majority of their lives, having neurological damage as a consequence. Claudia is the only cavy now living at Black Pine who has full eyesight. Celeste, Claudia’s sister relies on her to help guide her when navigating their habitat which she does confidently.

Claudia adores being outside, trying new foods and sunbathing!

Fun Facts:

Cavies are rodents and often mistaken for being rabbits or deer, but are actually more closely related to the agouti, guinea pic, chinchilla or capybara. They can run up to 30 miles per hour to escape predators, can jump up to six feet high, and can dig and burrow!
