Pierre
Patagonian Cavy

Pierre was rescued in partnership with the Animal Legal Defense Fund from a roadside zoo in Pennsylvania with two other cavies in spring of 2026. The three cavies arrived at Black Pine having been exposed to parasites for the majority of their lives, having neurological damage as a consequence. Due to that exposure, Pierre has significant vision loss and often is seen circling. That said, he is quite a confident animal, exploring his new habitat with ease and learning from his two habitat-mates, Celeste and Claudia.
Fun Facts:
In the wild, cavies often live in groups of as many as 70 animals, and will often mate for life!
